The wifes SLK has a rather wet front passenger footwell. Not sure where the water's coming from but it looks like from under the glove compartment. The side window seals seem to be fine although we do get the odd drip from the one at the top of the window where it appears to join.

I've had a look at the nearside drain by the windscreen scuttle and this appears to be clear except I have't had a chance to actully poke anything through the drain itself.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks Malcolm. It looks like the plastic scuttle panel will need to come off to get access to these.

Only the other day my wife cheerily remarked that the SLK was the only sports car we've had that doesn't drip water on her legs in the rain.

This sounds like a serious invitation to the flying fickle finger of fate, especially as the car lives out at the moment under a large ash tree with a serious seasonal moult problem.

Rather than wait for the inevitable, a bit of preventative maintenance would seem a good idea - perhaps you could forward me the data sheet too Malcolm?

Malcolm,

New SLK owner, looking for all the tips I can get! Can you send me the drain solution please? Incidentally my Rover 75 has exactly the same problem - have to clear the scuttle drain weekly!

Many thanks.

I haven't yet had the opporuntiy to remove the top scuttle but is does appear that the SLK has 4 drains on the front.

The nearside one exits into the inner wing somewhere and appears to drain freely.

The offside one again drains into the inner wing but the pipe briefy goes into the engine compartment. The problem is this one is blocked and despite poking wire through it doesn't want to clear (the problem is it has a right angle bend into the wing). The only option appears to involve removing the road wheel and plastic inner arch to get access (this is a pain as I did this a couple of months ago to replace the washer pump).

There also appear to be 2 more drains in the engine compartment which allow water to drain from the centre part of the scuttle / heater intake grill. There is one immediately in the centre above the gearbox and it's made from very flexible rubber. This did appear to be bloked but I was able to wiggle it around and poke my finger in to dislodge the crud. I then poured a jug of water from the top and this appeared to flush out any remaing matter. There's also another drain on the nearside of the engine compartment which again seems to drain water from the central section of the scuttle. This appeared drain freely.

Malcom - I know you posted up the Russian link but is there anyway we can definitively identify how many drains there are on an SLK?

I think that you have identified all of the front ones,,the ones over the gearbox are for the evaporator.

Strimmer cord is quite good for clearing them

Thanks Malcolm. I have tried strimmer cord but the problem is where the pipe goes at right angles into the wing. The other option would be to try and blast it out with a compressed air line.

I noticed the other week the drain under the petrol flap wasn't draining - tried bits of this & that - eventually solved by using a syringe (as in medical - you should be able to get from a chemist so long as it doesn't have a needle attached!).

It didn't work when I tried it "dry" - the air just compressed, but I filled it with water & gave a it really good blast & all the filthy water suddenly appeared on the ground - works fine now.
