I noticed the other week the drain under the petrol flap wasn't draining - tried bits of this & that - eventually solved by using a syringe (as in medical - you should be able to get from a chemist so long as it doesn't have a needle attached!).

It didn't work when I tried it "dry" - the air just compressed, but I filled it with water & gave a it really good blast & all the filthy water suddenly appeared on the ground - works fine now.

How can you allow filthy water in your wonderful motor car

Rain, rain go away.

Dear all,

Have the same problem as Moosehead on my Mercedes-Benz R170 3.2 L V6 (Brabus)! Malcolm, I've read your posts and checked your link to the drain issue (pretty sure thats the problem). Could I please have the paper that you refer to? Fairly sure that my email is included in posts, if not please let me know and I'll post, then remove after receipt.

I have posted this question in another forum, my apologies, new to the forum and made a school boy error.

Hope you can help?

Best,

Don

Hi all,

Still have water leaking into the SLK after checking drains. Cleaned all the drains. VAXed up the excess water. Just took it through a carwash (I know, I know). Appears I have a small puddle of water that keeps occurring BEHIND the passenger seat (so not emanating from the footwell as I first thought). The water is clean and appears limitless. Can also hear what appears to be water sloshing around in the sill. Stumped.

Any ideas?

One never knows if the roof joints have been adjusted too tight, leaving no way to close the joints further,,it may be necessary to replace one of the roof seals in order to fix the problem.

It should be possible to detect what seal by just running a hose over the front or rear seal in turns, by putting an old blanket over the center of the roof, you can isolate the front and rear sections

Hi Malcolm, Could you also let me have a copy of your paper on checking/cleaning the air-con for blocked drainage pipes? I have a 2002 SLK 320 and I noticed during this last weeks cold spell that the passenger footwell had a puddle full of frozen water :( This is the second time this has happened and the water isn't coming from outside the car. I've left the EC button on, which apparently disables the air con and there have been no further leaks.

Any help would be very much appreciated

Chris.

A/C causing damp? Same here.

I've isolated the cause of infeasible amounts of condensation I get on windscreen and rear screen by stopping using the A/C for a few weeks.

Could you please sent this popular paper on unblocking AC drains. I've looked all over the drawings on www.detali.ru and eventually found something but WHERE IS IT ON THE CAR!

Secondly, as I just googled my chassis number, and found it's for sale in Japan??!

How come, I thought these numbers were unique??

The heater box drain comes out I believe just between the wheel arch liners and the bulkhead. there are no papers for drains for the 170. pop your VIN number into here
http://www.neoriginal.ru/cat/mb/ and get the chassis card.

there is only one car with this allocated VIN number

Thanks for that. I had foreshortened the VIN, the full one is WDB1704492F225142 so I stuck that in the link you provided and it came back with a bag of symbols which translated as "Error! This VIN- number is not found in [BD]! " I guess that's DB for database to us.

Now I'm confused.
