hi, ive been offered a 1990 mercedes 300ce coupe. the car has a few knocks and i a little bit scruffy but the price seems fair enough (have looked round the internet and autotrader etc.) my question mainly is this, how many miles is a good engine likely to do? it has done 215000 miles, it has quite alot of service history although there are some gaps but it is 17 years old after all and we all misplace bits and pieces. anyway, if bought i plan to do a lpg conversion anyway so will more than likely rebuild the top end at least, but if the engine did go pop what other replacement engines are feasible? ideally id like to fit one fo the supercharged engines is this possible at a reasonable cost? (all labour would be done myself, can competently weild a spanner just not up on merc's)

secondly is there a way to tell between the 24v and non 24v engines just by looking as the owner is not 2 clued up on the car and there are no badges on the car?

cheers
chris
