Ebay one responded: sorry but we don't ship outside of USA, unless you arrange your own freight company. The mileage is 102k miles, sorry about the confusion.

No cheaper to recon your unit then Alex?

I'm guessing without an autopsy you don't know the extent of the damage anyway.

So much for "will ship to UK":(

Indeed!

No cheaper to recon your unit then Alex?(

Possibly/possibly not, WG and I don't have the time or space to take it all apart and send it off for new pistons etc (if required, then refit). If the existing engine is salvageable, ill have it built up with weistec pistons etc and put it back in again.

Have just had a thought, will an ABC pump bolt to an engine from a non ABC car (w211, G55 etc?) I would have thought so, but none of them share the same engine numbers:

cl55 - m113.991
E55 - m113.990
SL55 - m113.995
s55 - m113.991

NVM, just checked, timing case part numbers are the same across the board, so pump boltage should be fine. :)

55k engines appear very thin on the ground Malc.
Hardly any being advertised for sale in the known places.

how much different is the 55k to the 55? obviously the 55k has the supercharger, but are the internals different (lower compression etc) to allow for the charger, or is it less of an issue than with a turbo, where theyre on boost or off boost, not much of an in-between level, unlike a supercharger which from what little I know of them, boost all the time

Arranging shipping from the USA to UK is really really simple. Contact any local freight forwarder, they will handle it all for you. All you need to do is supply them with addresses, item details and money... The only issue is cost, I suspect shipping a V8 plus ancills will likely set you back £5-600. The FF's sort out all the paperwork however, provide door to door service.

I have used shipitto in the past and they have been good.

There is one on ebay for £2300 (after conversion) but he quoted me 1900 dollars to ship to the uk with DHL!

They are pretty different. 55K has lower compression ratios, different pistons and a few other differences.

Shipito quoted 2100 dollars to ship! ha

Dronsfields have come back and said they have found one, but will take 4 weeks to ship to me. Too long.

There's 2 on eBay UK, one at £2950 and one at £4000. The £2950 one is by Morgana management, they have recent feedback but their contact number doesn't work and they haven't responded to any emails/eBay messages yet.

arghh

Try a local FF to you, Alex. Not one in the 'States. Give them a call, don't just use an online automatic calculator. You might be surprised.

To give you a rough idea, I used to spend about $3.5k to ship 5 big flight cases (say 1 x 1.5 x 3m ea) to Vegas... so one engine crated should be significantly less.

Depends if you want air, land or sea however...

Not yet, still need to get the new one in first. Once done, it will be sent to GAD for dissection.

I would love to take it apart where it is, but time is of the essence, and it cant hang around the workshop with no heads :(

If it were me, I'd get a runabout for under a grand and sell it on after yours is sorted instead of swapping engines. You wont lose much and it would save a lot of hassle.

Something like this would be nice enough to drive until you get your car back.
