Sorry, Boring... What MPG for an SLK320?

I'm sure this has been asked before, although I can only find one passing reference in old posts. I'm thinking of buying a 2001 SLK320 auto - but that big V6 may mean I'll be stopping at filling stations more often than I'd like. I won't be using it as my main car, though, and I live in a very rural area (Inverness-shire) and it's not going to be used in heavy traffic unless I go over the Forth Bridge again soon.... I understand a 230K is probably the best for fuel consumption but the area I live in is a little sparse of them at present. Sorry (again) to be boring..

The 320SLK with a manual box is a very nice car. It is one of the few Mercedes where the manual really works well.
You are going to be looking at mid to high 20's for the mpg

:p I have a 320clk which is the same engine as slk320 V6, i can do 30 mpg mainly on motor way. However the 320 V6 engine is the smoothest engine you have ever experienced and the power is endless....
I would suggest you have a test drive before you decide!!

I've got a 2001 SLK320 manual, but I guess the mpg is going to be very similar to the auto - I don't think Mercedes figures show any difference. Overall mpg, which includes some town and some A road mileage (I use it on a 10 mile trip every day to work) is 25.5mpg, which is about spot on what Merc say. It can get lower in traffic but I've never had less than 22mmpg and I'm not a slow driver by any means. On a longer trip it pushes 30mpg and if it's a long motorway trip between 70mph and 85mph it gets 33mpg. So it's not bad, but not great. The new 350 is more efficient. Basically the 320 is 10% more powerful than the 230 and uses about 10% more fuel.
