I know it's been asked before but what rear tyres do I need for a september 2007 r230.Curerently its on Conti Spec 3's 285/35 ZR18 101Y
Car is in Spain and local tyre company is reccomending Pirelli at 215 euros
Hankook at 190 euros
Kumho at 160 euros
Fedemal ?? at 135 euros.
They say they cant get/recomend Goodyears.
More concerned about safety/noise.The roads here are fantastic. So any advice much appreciated

If that’s what they have and you can’t move the car where there’s more choice then go for the Pirelli’s which will be closest to your Contis- until beyond half worn they will be good, little hard and slightly noisy but better than the rest

If you can get the Goodyears, don't hesitate. Otherwise, both Hankook and Kumho are decent mid price tyres.

^ I had a Falken rear tyre do similar damage to that.
The tyre fitter said he's seen plenty more brands with the same thing and same cause. Straddling speed humps where all the weight of the car is transferred to the inside edge of the tyre and literally squeezes the wall against the inner rim.
Don't straddle speed humps, use one side only.

I've bought Hankook tyres virtually since they came to the UK market in the early 2000s. Back then they were classed and priced as budget tyres but on using a few on various cars it was obvious that the quality was anything but budget. After that I rarely bought any other brand.
Nowadays Hankook are high end mid range as far as price goes but definitely not as far as performance goes.
On the SL because its my hobby car and I want it how its meant to be I have Goodyear, if it was a daily user it would have had Hankook on it.

To be fair Hankook are appearing as OEM on quite a few Mercedes models now so can’t be all bad...
