hi all , i have just joind the site and what i need to know is how do i get a spare key for my ML . I have been told that i will only get one from a MB dealer , is that right ?
Ive got a few keys now for various cars and never had to have them coded SAM.. unless for the newer models...??Correct, V5 and passport id needed, then it has to be coded to the car at a extra cost!!
Welcome to the forums!!
Sorry to hijack the thread here..
I've just bought a 2000 CLK 230 convertible and the 2nd key has an issue.
It apparently unlocks the doors, but doesn't work the ignition (it's one of the 'triangular' shaped 'infra red' keys if that helps?)
Any suggestions-am I in for a £200 bill already?
Thanks.
It could be out of synchronisation with the car, or have low battery power.
Try resynching and/or batteries first.

I should not think you would have any problem with Malcolm. he's been round here for a long time. He has a good reputation.
For information,
If the key operates the central locking, it does "not" need re-synching. The re-synching procedure is to synchronise the locking codes, so the remote locking operates and has nothing to do with the starting of the vehicle, (3/2 button electronic key).
Take Malc up on his offer, hes your only chance of getting the key repaired, as MB will not even attempt or admit that they can be repaired, let alone have any bits available to repair them.
I cant fix all keys, and have managed to fix about 27 from 40
In cases where the remote is fine, but the car will not start this is mainly as the key has been dropped and a coil breaks off.
I buy keys from Ebay to get the parts,,if I cannot fix, then no charge.
Also I do not think that anyone else anywhere fixes them, not for the DAS keys anyway.
Yes I am shocked the the last guy where I fixed both has not even paid the £40 that I asked,,I saved him £400
