Hi,

My spark plugs were changed at 24k, 4 years on and car now on 57k, should i change plugs as my indie says they should be changed after about 45k or 4 years.

The car is showing no signs of power loss or misfire, can any problems arise from not changing or is just best to get them changed.

Indie has quoted £200 to change the 12 plugs is this a fair price ?
Comments apreciated

Thanks

Johno

Plugs will be £80-£100, 1.5-2 hours labour is the normal quote, so that seems fair.

N.B on the 2.4 M112 engine it's 60K or 4 years (but might be less on the 3.2) - look in the back of your service book it should tell you there.

Technically according the schedule it's due (on age, not mileage) and the price is fair but if she's running fine there is nothing to say you couldn't eek out some more time. They should be good for a while yet so depending on budget etc you could delay without any real problem if you wanted to. But, if it developed a misfire, you'd want to sort it immediately to avoid damaging the cat.
Some things like brake fluid and gearbox oil should be done on the button. Plugs - you can be a little more lax on.

I would not recomend prolongng a plug change.

They have a tendency to seize in on the 112 and 113 engines (V6 and V8)

The longer you leave them the worse it gets

nice 201 2.5D 1993 & very nice 129 SL500 1994
I would not reccomend prolonging the life either, as a plug ages the efficiency of the engine falls and you pay for it in fuel bills.
