Hi, I am looking to change the spark plugs on my E320 W210 (2001), I have been quoted 8 pounds each and I need 12...

Has anyone found a cheaper source ?

Thanks

Euro Car Parts www.eurocarparts.com, German Swedish French www.gsfcarparts.com, your FLAPS (Friendly Local Auto Parts Supplier). If desparate, on a bank holiday, if its simple/non safety-related, you could try Halfords.

ECP says that the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) was Bosch. They're quoting £4.10

I don't think £8 each is too bad, though I can see some for £6.44+vat which a little better. I think I paid around £110 for 12 but I went for the Iridium ones - probably a waste of time but it wasn't a lot more. I got mine from www.sparkplugs.co.uk

I'm sure you know, but you need platinum (60k plugs) as a minimum - copper are not suitable as you'd be swapping them too often. All the cheaper ones I looked at turned out to be lower spec in some way.

The v6 is a bit fussy about plugs and if you're planning to do the job yourself, be aware its a swine of a job. None are visible and most virtually innacessible, especially the ones at the back on the right. I pulled off the MAS to gain a little more access but the aircon pipes and ABS are in the way on the other side. - Half way through, I would have paid someone £100 to finish it!!

Also just FYI - the leads 'click' on - it takes a lot of force to get them on and it feels like you're overdoing it, but if they don't click, you'll get a misfire. Finally, if you are replacing them because its running lumpy, it could be the leads, not the plugs - I ended up replacing both.

Very strange, I was at the GSF shop and they said something like 9 pounds each for the plugs and I did not buy them. On their online site they are quoting 4.00 + VAT = 4.70 and free shipping. Great. And I think Halfords quoted 12.50 but they'd have to order them in and she did not know if it was a single one or a pack of 4 or what. I think pack of 4 which would make Halfords cheaper!!!

I went through this loop with Halfords but they didn't seem to know what they were selling me. Clearly 12.50 for one is silly but 12.50 for 4 (£3 ea) is too cheap and so almost certainly not the correct plug. I found it a minefield with everyone quoting different part numbers - even Halfords chart contradicted itself - at one point I was going to buy the 'recommended' ones from them as they had a 3 for 2 offer on 4 packs but when I checked the part number online, it was a copper plug. Be very careful!

Possibly daft suggestion but I have been told since that the dealer's parts desk is quite reasonable for plugs, and at least you know you have the right parts.
