Specialist for 190e or other older Mercedes

Hi

I’m looking for a mechanic who will be comfortable / willing to work on a 190e. Ideally in the Manchester, Lancashire or Cheshire areas. I’ve spoken to a couple of local guys who were helpful but expressed reservations about doing anything other than general servicing. This is OK for the time being but ideally I’d want someone who is happy to assist when something goes wrong.

Any recommendations will be gratefully received.

Dont let this put you off . There are members on the forum that owwn 190E that will help you if problrms come up .Its the injection part that is complicated enugh to put the willies up normal mechanics. But if you have a carb on your model, that makes it even better to work on .

Thanks for the response. I think because these are no longer run-of-the mill cars some specialists prefer not to take them on because they’re not used to them and parts presumably are not always readily available or at least not from their usual suppliers. Hopefully another owner of a 190 or car of similar vintage, will be able to suggest someone.

Most guys that worked on these for a living at the dealers most have gone by nopw or retired .

We love them and all mercs 70 to now. But are quite far for general repairs for you

I have a 78 240d
97 c140 coupe
90 R129

Did have a 74 w116 but a customer prised it from my hands.

Have owned 2 W201 190e's and worked on loads of the above.

Hi Alexander and thanks for the reply. Good to know you’re out there, albeit a bit of a trip from Manchester. Coincidentally, the car I’ve just purchased was from Kent. My first drive in it was the 250 mile trip to Manchester. Which was a bit nerve wracking.

A bit of a trek but MercSev in Nottingham love and rate the older Merc’s and will cater for all your needs.

What about SPR autos, they are up your way.

SPR Autos are in Stockport and recently had a You Tube out on working on a 190. Well worth giving them a ring.

Thanks. SPR were my first port of call. They are very good and just down the road from me. I would recommend them. They are willing to service and give it a check over but told me they are not keen to take on new cars of this age for wider work. To be fair, they mention this in one of their other videos involving a red SL and were consistent with this when I spoke to them. I’ve had the same indication from another local specialist who I’ve seen mentioned in forum posts.
