Hi there, new to the forum and currently looking to get rid of my VW for a Sports Coupe.

Have a budget of £7000, and have seen a few on Autotrader that are in budget, but would appreciate any advice you peeps may offer!

Thanks.

Hi there and welcome :)

The Sports Coupe is a really good car but I would make two suggestions; definitely get an automatic as you'll get the best retained value and I think it drives better, and secondly, try to get a Sport model with the modified suspension and AMG style wheels as it handles, steers and looks so much better. Both the C180K petrol and the C220 CDI are good engines so pick one that best suits your driving style/needs.

Best of luck!

Am picking up my first MB Coupe today... 180K. Evo/Sports pack with pano roof, grey leater, heated seats, parking sensors, 54 plate, 11,000 miles and got it for just over £12k.

I'm in exactly the same position as the original poster, C class coupe for about £7K!

I test drove one today which seemed nice. It was an 02 plate 220CDI manual with about 80K miles. It was presumably the absolute bottom spec - non-electric seats, cloth trim, aluminium console details.

I note Qcut's comments about auto gearboxes being higher value, but I'm no fan of autos generally and quite liked the gearbox on this one.

One question: this car had some light rust bubbles on the paintwork on the rear, driver's side wheel arch which was just creeping around onto the main body panel. I spoke to my local MB dealer who said that this should be covered by the MB 10 year warranty. Is this correct? What - if anything - might invalidate that warranty? The original owner had it serviced by an MB main dealer but the current owner had 1 non-MB service - is that likely to jeopardise it?
