 I have recently purchased a 1999 sprinter 308D non turbo. My problem is that the glow plug light does not come on when the ignition is switched on, the van starts ok but once running the glow plug light then comes on for about 1 minute. Iwas going to change the glow plugs but will this cure my fault?

Any ideas

Phil.

308d glow plugs

Hi Phil,
I've had similar with my 1994 310 non turbo.Iput a new set of glow plugs in -- bingo no problems. I've since done about 100K with it on long distance haulage still no problems.
Regards Mick J

Hi

Had a 1996 308 that behaved in exactly the same way. Assume it to be a primitive diagnostic function when one or more of the plugs burn out.
Don't do as my local Merc commercial dealer did and only change the faulty plugs as you will most likely have to get your hands dirty again when the other plugs go, which for some reason is almost always within a few weeks - result is a vehicle off the road again for the sake of 20 quid.
Hope you have lots of extensions in your socket set as its a lovely job at this time of year with cold hands.
Good luck
Ant

Thanks Ant & Mick,
I had a feeling it was due to the glow plugs being burnt out and the van needs a service anyway.
Still at least I've got the use of a workshop that I can just get the van in, so shouldn't get too cold.

Phil.
