Hi there, new to posting on forums so please bear with me!
We purchased a new motorhome on a sprinter base. Perhaps we are a bit green, to say the least, but we expected to be informed by the dealer when a service would be due. It is now 26months old with a low mileage (5000miles) so we contacted the dealer for a service, assuming there would be a 3year warranty on the vehicle. Apparently not so as the vehicle was german made and imported into UK by the dealer. Has anyone else had exerience of this? We would be very grateful for any feedback. Thankyou so much

Welcome to the forum - I don't know much about motorhomes but we were looking at buying one earlier this year. The ones we looked at were based on a Fiat chassis which is then converted by Autotrail oop north and had the full 3 year warranty. Which 'home have you got? i.e. who is the conversion by? Autotrail use Sprinter chassis too.

Hi Stumpy, it is a La Strada, a conversion that we would have highly recommended until now!

Hi La Srada

Until three years ago, I used Motorhomes for work in Europe over a period of seven years.

My last purchase in 2001 was left hand drive Hymer based on Fiat uprated chassis and manufactured/converted in Germany. My previous two motorhomes were based on VW chassis supplied and converted in UK. They were both rubbish for depth of winter use in south Europe, hence my purchase of Hymer.

Base vehicle was treated as a commercial vehicle and subject to that warranty which was 12 months. Servicing was as per Fiat documents supplied for base vehicle and 'living accommodation' was as per Hymer instructions ( annual service for gas/water supplies and annual chargeable examination to maintain six year guarantee against water ingress to living accommodation). This vehicle completed 47000 mile in two years with no problems experienced, more than I can say for 2005 E Class with half the mileage!!!!!

I suspect you will find the same limited warranty for your vehicle as it was effectively imported and normally warranty is as supplied to country of origin for base vehicle.

I suggest you check with supplying Motorhome dealer and check vehicle service book supplied on purchase.

Hope this helps and I do miss living weeks in my Motorhome when working around Europe - even five star hotels in Emirates ain't a patch on freedom motorhome gave me

Best of luck

Bill

hi la strada,

i would have thought there would still have been a 3 yr warranty even though imported. i suppose it should have been serviced at 1000miles or 1 yr. with the cars if they have a 'b' service it brings the warranty back. not sure about the commercial side. i find them to be extremely helpful and reasonably priced - unlike the passenger car side :(

We have a fleet of 500 sprinters. 5 slipped through as imports, something to do with body builders pulling a fast one. They had 1 year warranty, as opposed to 3 years with UK vehicles.

Hi all, thanks for your input, we have checked the warranty and it's 1 year only! A case of buyer beware I suppose?????
