start up problem

hi to all ,keeping safe still

little problem has occurred ,my daughters cc200cdi /02 failed to start yesterday am from cold but did on 3rd attempt .all running well she left the car late on night and retuned later to have the same problem from cold. always starts the rest of the day .

done the same this morning and again after being left allday

had new heater plugs last year . on turning on the ignition the glow plug light goes out quickley as ever but no fireing up

cant see any thing loose mpg is good ,no smoke or rattles apart from front bottom link on brake application ( to be sorted)

any pointers before i go plug into pc

Air in the low pressure clear fuel lines, due to leaking O-Rings is most likely.

o rings on the fuel lines from the pump to inj,s , i was in thhe understanding there a little touchy ( breakable and one or two have 8 ml nuts , ( do these need undoing from the nut or just pull off

No the clear plastic lines that run to the low pressure pump just above the HP pump.

They also run to the fuel filter from the tank lines. They have corrugated black plastic around them in some places.

The clips can be very brittle so do be careful when pulling them off.

thanks , seems i was going overboard as per . im real old school ,coal and water ha
have a look see in daylight and give merc at exeter a call see what needed , again cheers

This sounds like "Black death" - don't panic it's not as bad as it sounds.
Basically the injector seal is blowing and needs replacing. Not an overly difficult job but hamfisted mechanics can easily strip the retaining bolt thread which can make a straightforward job difficult.

Where are you in the country - we can probably suggest a reputable garage to do it.

would have been seen earlier if it was not for the plastic cover ,im angry now dang plastics .
can i run the car without the plastics with no affect to any thing else ,cause if so plastics are coming off this 220 and 270

You can run without covers but you'll get increased noise. No need to run without. Once it's done it'll be fine for years.

If you don't mind a drive Steve at Avantgarde motors Clevedon is highly recommended for this kind of work and is a regular on here too.

Ask the Indy to replace the 'o' rings (6 or 7 of 'em) while he's at the injector.
It won't add much to the overall cost and means you don't have the problem ahead for a few years.

If you do 'em yourself pre heat the engine bay to reduce the likelihood of the fuel line clips breaking off.

indie says £70 for the job inc seat cut £100 if he encounters probs reviews recommend him commercial fitter, so says some lads that use him . told him symptoms and new exactly what i was saying (oh yes) thats nice

all done £105 o rings fine ,so got a set of o ring spare .mpg is up ,power up just a little ,mech seemed surprised it ran sweet at 171k

well i could swear today, got a phone call 07.20 today . who the ^**^ is that waking me up . oh dear its the daughter ,dad car wont start .im late for work .so you know the conversation that follows . me going to sort it is the end result . so she takes my car and leaves me in a village miles from human kind. (but im not scared , i got me tool kit dude) . up with the bonnet ,cover off well blow me if it aint an o ring ,rage abaits and i get out the o rings , great they look to big so i start the car and its going to the local garage
all the that before tea and toast on a sunday . not right dudes
so a little help to confirm i got the right o rings

2002 c220 cdi
part no MA601-997-06-45 Seal ring 8 of (green)
merc said this is for the clear fuel lines in the corrogated plastic
anyone please confirm

at last all done ,would not start agian when it did ,ruff . turned out the no 4 inj cooked the cam sensor so that replaced starts flick of the key ,done the o rings 6 of . happy-ish, ha

can someone tell me whats missing (bolt) here in the front of engine 1st pic and is this a dip stick to i see 2nd pick
