I have a 2002 CLK 230 Kompressor convertible. With 2 different keys intermittently I turn the key and the instrument panel lights up but the start motor doesn’t turn. It seems to happen more regularly when the engine is hot. When the starter does turn over the engine starts with no problem. I have been told that the crank shaft position sensor is the problem. Is this feasible? What do you think?.

Regards Steve

Hi,
Welcome to the forum.
These symptons have been posted before though i cannot for the life of me remember the cure other than possible relay problem. If you do a search on the forum, it was quite recent, look for similar faults on 210 E class, 202 C class, 208 CLK but must be post 97-98 cars because of the starting/ignition system used.
Crank shaft position sensor being faulty would not effect the cranking of the engine.
Hope this has been of some help.
