Steering Column Gear Paddle

Hope someone can offer some advice here, I’ve a ‘07 220CDI C Coupe Auto which I’m very happy with, however the car I have doesn’t have the manual gear option or the gear change paddles on the steering column, however I’ve noticed this is not the norm. I thought these were part of the standard fitting, not an option, any ideas why mine hasn’t got them? To re-iterate, C Class 220CDI Coupe Automatic EVPA bought new in May 07. Thanks.

Paddle shift is now a common but not standard option.

Looking at the link from above I can only see the paddles on the AMG model :-(

Hi Chaps, thanks for the advice, tried the webpage as suggested, the only option for automatic is;

5-speed auto with tipfunction & speedtronic cruise control 1,155 GBP

which is what I ordered, I got the cruise control, and speedtronic, however not tipfunciton which I take it is the paddles?

Now I'm wondering if I got somthing rare or just aged? The dealer was originally talking about a long lead time, (made in Brazil now apparently?) then this car appeared at specification much more quickly from another dealer. Is there any way to co-oborate the storey from the dealer. Thanks for your help.

I noticed from the web page once you look at "your car" and click on "Standard Equipment" you see;

Transmission equipment
Speedtronic cruise control
Steering wheel gearshift paddles

You will have tiptronic. You cannot have an auto C-class without it since 2000.

Thanks again guys. So I'm the happy (though confused) owner of a C class coupe bought and registered in May 07 which is an automatic but doesn't have the paddles. Now type49, are you telling me it has sat unregistered for 7 years, until a fool and his money came along? Or perhaps it isn't old but was converted to an auto with non standard kit, sounds unlikely. I guess I can speak to MB and find out the details of date and specification of manufacture from them? Any assistance greatfully accepted, I guess they will need manufacture number or somthing similar, will have to lookup where to find this. Interesting, if I find out I'll let you know. Thanks.

There is a website - I think TELEVISION has the link - where you tap in your VIN and, hey presto - you get the spec for the individual car.

You're mistaking "tip function" for "paddles" - they're different things. All Merc autos have tip function. You change up and down manually by knocking the gear shift lever side to side.
I have Tip in my E (had in my 2000 E too!) , but I don't have paddles.

As Jberks says. Tiptronic does not mean paddle shift controls on steering wheel. It means the gearshift goes from park to "D" with "+" & "-" on a left-to-right action, as apposed to a gearshift which goes from park to "D" & then 4-3-2-1 all in an up-down action - get it?? Tiptronic is much easier to control manual shifts this way, especially if you were towing etc. Paddle shift is an additional option on top of Tiptronic. It may only be on the "Sport" model but it is not exclusive to AMGs. I've driven a C200 with paddles.

I had a C220CDI as a courtesy car and that had them. I also note from the configure your car website as per my post above that steering wheel paddles are included on the spec.
