Strange noise

I may be clutching at straws here, but my 1990 E260, has, in the last couple of days, started to "judder" when I steer to the left. It sounds like its coming from the back of the car. There is nothing visibly obvious that I can see.

Has anyone else experienced this?
The reason I ask is because if its something simple or silly [I'm not very mechanically minded!] then I'd be interested to know, and avoid paying out any $$$

Thanks,

Sheep

only forwards?

or in reverse as well?
Are you hanging on to the steering wheel well onto its stops, or are you just using a light grip?
All speeds, or just manoevering?

Not that I know why, but this info will help the others here work it out.

It appears to be only going forward.
I wouldn't say I grip the steering wheel and harder than just holding onto it.
Would appear to be at most speeds whilst turning left, ie taking a left at traffic lights, which isn't very fast at all.

could be the wheel rubbing on the bodywork

or a bearing going, or cv joints, or the brakes messing about. I'm going to stop now as I'm getting scared. I think a trip to a good garagiste is in order. It could be dangerous. Check the wheelbolts for tightness before you go.

I'm thinking it maybe a wheel bearing starting to go. Mine makes a noise occasionally when turning left or exiting a roundabout. Diagnosed as wheel bearing starting to go.
