This is for the flip out key (not DAS)
Model 124 with code 885
Model 124 as of 01-03-96
Model 129,140,202 as of 01-12-94 up to 31-05 97
Model 210 up to 28-02-97

If the car cannot be locked or unlocked the system must be synchronized.

Point window in remote key at a receiver.

Press the remote button momentarily.

(cars up to 12-93 lock or unlock car with folding key within 30 seconds in door lock)

Cars as of 01-94 with control modules 202 820 40 26 and 202 820 43 26. Switch on ignition with folding key within next 30 seconds.

Cars as of 12-94 with part number 210 820 21 26,
210 820 22 26 also 210 820 27 26 and 210 820 28 26 also 210 820 32 26 point remote key at receiver in interior mirror. press remote button momentarily twice, turn key in ignition lock to position 2 within the next 30 seconds.

w124 - synchronising key fob

I have purchased a 1994 E300 diesel. Great car with lovely drive.

My problem is that the key fob KEY BLADE opens the door locks (passenger and boot) but does not open the driver's side via the remote.

I have replaced the battery and now know its works (as can see a dim light coming out of it). Problem is that the key blade in the fob is not the same as the ignition barrel as this has been replaced in the past. To start the car there is a seperate key which is the ordinary type.

My question is this - how do i synch the key fob so that it opens the doors? It is my understanding that in order to sycn the fob you need to press the fob button twice directed at the door handle and then within 30 secs put it in ignition barrell and turn it into the second position. Given that i have to different keys for door and ignition what

You do need to hold the key in front of a digital camera to check that the IR beam is there

If the flip-out key opens the boot & passenger door it's the correct key for the car

If the ignition key is different the ignition lock barrel has been changed at some time. A replacement barrel, keyed to your car, is available from Germany for about £65

If the remote key does not open the car via the IR sensor in the driver's door, but does open the car via the tailgate IR sensor, the drivers door sensor is kaput. Replace it. If the key works with neither sensor then either the key or the IR locking is kaput

If you have one IR key that works just order another from MB. £120-ish

sorry if this is in the wrong place

i tried to post in the electrics forum but it ont let me??
im new.
i have a c180 sport coupe (03)and today for some reason the keys wont work(both keys), i point and press, the red light on the key flashes and nothing hppens,
i have to use the small metal key to open the doors but cant open or lock boot.
manual just says to use keys? any idea?
iv tried disconnecting the battery. no luck.iv checked the keys areworkng with my digital camera, the beams are there.

hi malcolm, thanks for gettng back to me.
yes the key works in the ignition.
iv just looked a all the fuses(the small coloured ones) under the bonnet,boot and driver side all fine fom what i can see. still no response to infa red key.

Oh dear,,then this could be an EIS problem wait till the indies come on later in the day.

The RF lockling is separate to the IR locking up to a certain point,,then they become one

cool, ill hang around for a bit, is it ok to bump the thread in a few hours if no replies?

i just needd an idea as i have to take it bak to carcraft to fix it and they reall have no idea.

remember i asked your advice re engine management and eatbelt faults a few week ago?well they had my car for a week and dd nothing to it as they culdnt figure out the issue., and i the end they took it to mercdes benz to fix.i just want to pont them in the right direction.

thanks for an advice.

This means that the antenna amp has gone down,,it in the C pillar,,and that is your problem and not the EIS

Yes the amp for the locking is shared by the radio and this was the vial clue that told us it was the amp. It is a very well known fault,,sometimes when work has been done on the rear of the car the thin inner wire can break on the plugs where they go into this amp in C pillar

The antenna amp is in the C pillar,, first they should check to see if it has 12v going to it, as the fuse may have blown, and they blow when the amp goes short circuit.

The lead from the antenna amp can be checked by tuning into a weak or noisy station on the radio. Take out the plug from the amp that feeds the car. inside this connector is a very thin center pin, if when they are standing outside the car just touch this center pin with a nail or small screwdriver while touching the blade, if the radio comes to life, then the lead is OK, and it will be just the amp
