after 2 weeks of scratching their heads and fitting a new back windscreen to no help, carcraft have passed this onto merc of sunderland who have had it since yesterday and cant figure the prblem out either, even tho they have both been informed of the information you already gave me. shouldnt merc computer be able to diagnose this?

It is the amp or a broken inner wire of a cable on the amp, and so common this fault

Hi gents,

I have w124 E200 end of 1995 love the car. bought it from a doggy guy without remote and boot and passanger side locks not working but thought I will get the remote and will be OK. Today went to get the key with the remote only to understand that boot and ignition were changed and couldnt synchronize the remote because non of the locks(2) actually work.

Any Idea how to synchronize it. The mechanic told me only way is the boot lock to be changed and with the new key on half turn to press the remote into the boot synchronize eye and in next 30 sec to turn on engine.

Thanks

OK,

time for me to start moaning.

The remote central locking hasnt been right since ive had the car tbh - thats over a year. when i bought it i replaced the casings of the keys and replaced the batteries in one.

it unlocks and locks the car and immoblises the car too however 99.9% of te time it locks or unlocks the car both green and red lights flash on the rearview mirror. some times it takes a few tries to get the car to unlock too.

However, coming back tonight, and trying to open the car with the fob this evening has yielded problems.

neither fobs work. at all. i can open the car with the blade, unlock everything with the centre lock in the dash, and i can turn the car over, but it wont fire. this is because of the immobiliser. iver had it in the past when the immobiliser hasnt been deactivated on my old W202 in the past.

ive tried resetting the fobs by pressing the buttons twice and then inserting into the ignition and turning to position 2, no luck. i cannot seem to get the digital camera test for the IR light to work on the fobs. ive never got it to work anyway from memory.

This is worrying because if this doesnt miraculously work at some point i have a great big paperweight sat outside.

I think that you are going to have to remove the UK fitted alarm, this wlll be car number 8 or 9 in the past 2 years where this has failed, at some £700 plus fitting its not a cheap job.

Free to remove, you just join up the wires colour for colour, best to get it checked though first on STAR to make sure it is that one, member Jib did it recently.

hmm... i dont have anyone here who i know who can come out with a star machine and not charge me a fortune. ill have to look into that.

otherwise, ill have to do the "fix"

http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=124631&page=4

i assume this is the thread. there seems little detail on what to do. I'll have to do a little more digging tomorrow. i'm hoping that it will work tomorrow.

from what i can glean from the thread there might be a way to resolder connections? like the multifunction relay fix on the R170/W202 where the joints go brittle..?

right, so where is the ATA module then? is there any direction on removing this unit and reconnecting the wires up as previously mentioned? also, will this render my RCL inoperative?

i have read about this K40 relay being an issue... personally i think its not that at the moment as it seems to have been intermittent up until now

Could it be both fobs?

I went all through this with 2 members a few years back, age gets the better of me these days and I will have to go back and read up on this car again.

Anyone with a spectrum analyzer could check the keys., I sold mine 2 years back :(

Malcolm, All your efforts are highly appreciated.

I'll have to see if anyone has a spectrum analyser.... this might be interesting.
