went to see a 129 sl320 today. edition model. in top marques, 21k, 37 k miles. blue.

mechanically sound, very smooth. few probs bodywise. some stone chips, pan roof had corrosion at the base. half of this had been sorted and the other half is being done. it was at a bodyshop i saw it and the cosmetics should be ironed out. wheels need doing too.

somehow though, i dont fancy it. he wont sell it unless it looks a1, imo. if it had been 19k with the bonnet done, fair enough. he reckons he can do the bonnet. mystic blue, so tough call. took it px for a range rover. id be interested to know what he paid for it. mine books at 21.8 rock bottom, with no extras accounted for. he sells lambos and ferraris and has a bentley there, so he is into big cars! decent bloke too.

saw a 325i convertible yesterday, straight swapper for my clk. 04 plate. looks the biz. driving it tomorrow. never had a beamer, never fancied them. 330 also avaialble with dealer.

is this cold feet, or mental?

I sold my mint 99 SL320 for £16k 39k miles no stone chips or rust anywhere, it had every known extra, it is still in the picture section.

not sure if this applies, as i am not sure the age of the car, and when the 30 years perforation warranty started,

but if the bodyshop are not mb approved and you buy the car, then you will lose the 30yr corrosion warranty wont you,

maybe someone else has a more definitive answer regarding dates and perforation warranty.

WALK away in fact RUN AWAY unless you fall in love with the car it is not the one for you go drive a SL500 he he

Michael I thought we'd been through this ;).

The corrosion isn't rust - the panoramic roof had a seam problem - all of them corrode on the rear quarter edges. I've had two corrected under Mobilo ( introduced Sep '98 ) - no real problem.

If you have a panel resprayed outside of MB Bodyservice then they can refuse a future warranty claim for corrosion - though R129s have suffered the least of all MBs of this era.

ok, he's agreeing to a swap. im walking away, i can do better. dealer has offered a better price to buy ouright, making me a cash buyer. gonna hold the cash for a silver arrow or minter edition. will hire a matiz until that happens. actually, this is gettin stupid! matiz!
