Hi

Right I have had waterpump, tensioner and viscous fan all changed, firstly the temp of the car is between 82-85 in normal driving, under traffic this goes to 90 or just under 100 is this normal now?

BUT from a cold start the temp goes to 40 in like 1 min to 80 in like 2-3 is this normall?? or is this the temp sender/thermostat being faulty

TIA

Won't be the thermostat, as you'd be getting very high readings when it warmed up - in fact, looks like the thermostat is working perfectly, blocking the flow till the engine is warm, then allowing flow.

Your temperture is fine now,as carabind says thermstat must be OK, the head is going to get hot quickly,I would not worry for now. The gauge sender may be at fault.

Located under the plastic cover at the front of the cylinder head, No.11 in this diagram.http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.as....418&VIN=*&CT=M&cat=19K&SID=15&SGR=120&SGN=05 Suggest you pull off the connector and make sure it is clean and making good contact before replacing the sensor.

thanks will do that, also today for the first time - must be coincidence the water level light came on - but coolant is fine and not overheating so is the sensor on top of the radiator? there is a small surplus amount of water around it maybe just the seal has gone

Thanks

The level sensor is the one on top of the radiator, mine leaks a small amount of coolant also but it doesn't seem to affect the level . I took the sensor out of mine to check and there doesn't seem to be a sealing ring.
If your light is on it may be just an airlock in the header tank , top the radiator up with coolant ,leave the cap off and squeeze the radiator top hose , the level will drop ,repeat until level stays constant, replace cap and hopefully your light will stay off .

Thats excellent advice, yes i took it out just now and its like a clear plastic probe but there seems to be some oil like susbstance in the probe as it like a tube, Is this electrical or using oil? be interesting to find out, in any case I shall try remove airlock as I just had waterpump ftted yesterday and new coolant and this light did not come on before so air lock seems feasible.

Thanks

PS - I cannot seem to locate this temp sender unit?
