Was just surfing the MB UK site (as you do) and whaddyer know -the car I was gonna order has been dropped :x

It now jumps from the 200 Kompressor to a 3 litre V6 (E280) They've added £975 to the price as well !!

Sacunfrasenrasen... That Lexota is looking more attractive by the minute !!!

Thats no harm. Don't know what horsepower it had in the end up, but it was always too slow for most. And it wasn't that economical either.

Less than a grand extra for the 3 litre. Should be well over 200hp.

If you can find a dealer with an E240 in stock then you should be able to get a good discount. Obviously as a stock car you might not get your choice of options though.

The price increase for the E280 is due to the extra cost of the 7G gearbox instead of the 5 speed.

IIRC the 280 has 231bhp.

There is a smaller 2.5 V6 going in the C-Class to be badged C230 with 190bhp but I haven't seen anything to suggest that it will be appearing in the E-Class.

from C-Class Price List
C230 (2,496 cc, 6-cylinder, 24-valve, 204 hp)
C280 (2,996 cc, 6-cylinder, 24-valve, 231 hp)

The 240 was really a 2600cc engine - and I think the output was only 170bhp. The consumption was very similar to the 320. So dropping does make sense, especially if the new 230 has a power output of 191bhp.

Yea, CJ

I thought it was increased in size at one stage, but it did not increase in power too much, together with poor fuel consumption compared relative to the 320.

The 3litre at 231 hp should return the same MPG with 60 more horses.

That along with a 7 speed, is got to be worth an extra 1k, eh Ed

Mmmmmm :-? ... I will reserve judgement until I've been 'Lexussed' on Saturday !!

I've called two MB dealers local to me and neither have the E280 with the 7 speed yet but I'm on the list for a test drive when they get one in.

I used to be indecisive but now I'm not so sure.....
