Yip it’s only up the road from me R,
Malcolm, unfortunately after years of TVR ferocity and noise I would like the best of both worlds ....don’t we all.
Unbelievably the 55's that I’ve looked at have no where near the spec of my car, you would think every box would be ticked on a 100k+ car…. go figure?
So the hunt continues, as my car took me a long, long time to find I’m not desperate to get into a mediocre 55.

It would seem that many of the early SLs were all bought with all of the boxes ticked, finding one with parktronic is hard enough on a 2004+ car now days, and I agree with you.

Its almost a horse and cart situation, the dealers order saying that people do not want xxx, its just not true

Stuart, if you're doing track work I woud advise towards a 911 rather than the 55. The 911 is designed with a racing/track purpose, as opposed to the SL that is supposed to appeal to a slightly wider audience.

Re toys, my point of view is that, while they're 'nice haves', they are not essential and in the long run, given MB's issues in the 99-06 era, could just be an added hassle factor as they start gping wrong (just speculation here though, not substantiated by any facts). I, for one, would not order things like COMAND etc as I dislike sat nav or PDC and many other gizmos which are just money makers for the manufacturer. (on the other hand, I'd probably splash out on deigno leather, so I guess the final cost would be the same...).

The track work is only on the bike,

but I do agree the 911 is the weapon of choice although GT3 etc harsh on the road. Additionally I need the convertible aspect of a car.
With regard to the "nice haves" again I agree (unusual for me to be so agreeable) but when I have come to sell cars the same ol same ol always crops up "has it got this" & "has it got that" and if not their more difficult to shift.. Sad but true.
I had some tickets but sadly gone...my wife is working their at present and had some client spares the (air display is going on over the house at present)

Once I had driven with disronic for instance ,I would not want a car without it

The same goes for comfort seats with the cooling fans, and listening to the Bose makes the journey somrthing rarther nice

Cars with PDC, COMAND etc are much easier to sell. Cars with Designo are far more difficult to shift. A car with Designo but without COMAND , PDC etc would be very very hard to shift. An AMG with designo and no PDC, COMAND would be near impossible to shift for decent money.

Personally I'd have an SL55 over a 911 any day. They are far more reliable than a 911, cost far less to run/service and sound monumentally better. Thats not to say a 911 isnt a great car, it is. Its just that the SL55 is a better prospect in most cases except resale value and track performance.

Well, if I am buying a brand new £70k + car then large part of the pleasure is speccing it to my taste, so I don't see why I should care what the next buyer wants. Granted, with this method one will loose loads in depreciation, so either they keep it for long enough that it doesn't matter (ie over 10 years) or there is enough money that it doesn't matter anyway.

As for your statements on 911 vs 55, they're clearly pretty subjective (in particular the one on reliability) so I will leave them at that. Given the choice I really would struggle between 911 and SL so it would come down to what its being used for. As you say, its all about 'personally' choosing.
