So my car insurance company play the same old game they normally do. Last they charged me £304. This year they quoted £344 even though I had an extra year of no claims. That's a 13% increase. So I do what I normally do and contact them and ask for a final quote before I look at other companies. They drop the price to £309. I wonder how many people just pay because they can't be bothered to spend a bit of time questioning the cost increase. I have looked on the comparison websites but the difference is not that much and not from any notable insurance companies. I also added business miles to my car last year and that bought the cost down a bit.

Happy to hear others tips and tricks on getting the price down.

I do the compare and even if they match I go to the new company and give old company feedback they they need to submit "best and final" as the renewal and don't rely on "sticktion"
The law changed that they have to give equal prices to existing customers as new business - the reality is that there's still some difference...

They all do that and try to rip you off on 2nd or 3rd year.
Always shop around and use comparison sites, the range goes from a few £££s to ££££s

In my search for a R230/231 SL I discover that the insurance will be significantly less than my Focus Estate
Oddly the 350 costs more than the 500!

If you look at the increased discount applied for no claims from 1 year to the next, they are pretty insignificant changes. Some times they don’t change. I’m with LV and IIRC their discounts don’t change from years 3 to 7 and only go upto 9 years of no claims (max discount).

Check every year and think nothing of switching if need be.

A glc 2.0 with value of 27000 is roughly 200 more expensive to insure than a 2.0 kuga with a value of 27000. //::: Why with 45 yrs no claims ( not one ) am I only allowed 9 yrs no claims bonus and insurance companies won’t accept my licence no as I live in N .Ireland.
