Hello
I wanted to know if some one has ever changed the timing chain tensioner on the 2.3 16v model or any 16v model, if its a easy do it your self job or a mercedes main dealer garage job? Also if it is possible do it youself does the tensioner need to adjusted in any way or is it just bolt in bolt out as the tensioner seems to look like a massive bolt with threads on both sides.
Has anyone attempted this replacement if Yes is it easy or hard??

Hi.

I have removed and reseated my timing chain tensioner on my 230e once I had undone the large bold and pulled out the tensioner, you need to reset it by taking out the plunger bit all the way and reinserting it in the case until it clicks once, then put it back in.. I had a couple of problems.

1/ if you don't reset it then then it seems to pop out and the chain will be to taught, (whining noise appears)

2/ once its reset then its a bugger to get the ouside nut on, as the spring is pushing this out..

happy changing.
