Any thoughts on the benefits of doing an engine oil flush when changing the oil? Car has always been serviced on time now coming upto 6 yrs old on 50k.

Can cause harm as can losen crap that can block the finer oil galleries .

Chose a detergent based over a solvent one .

Or just change the oil twice within 2 weeks then every 6 months or year depending on use .

I change my oil between scheduled services and would rather have the dregs of a genuine engine oil mixed in with the fresh rather than a flushing agent regardless of it's constitution, if I felt the need to flush I'd seriously consider using engine oil.

No need with modern fully synthetic oils they are so thin anyway early changes are always recommended for short journey cars as fuel contamination doesn’t get burnt off

When mine was new it hadn't had many changes. So I did a flush with Wynnes, put in a cheap oil and a new filter and run it for about 100 miles. Dropped the oil & filter and then refilled with decent oil & a new filter. Since I have changed more often than recommended, (5000 miles or once a year, which ever comes first) but I do have a M271 engine & do lots of short trips.

I don't flush. Modern synthetic oils changed regularly just don't need it. If you subject the engine to extreme use, just change more often.
For diesels consider the addition of Kleenoil bypass filter - if you have any space!

In 53 years of car ownership I have never had an engine failure, & I normally keep them to over 100K miles. I just change the oil & filter as per the service schedule.
The worst I have had was my wife's Renault Clio 1.4RT head gasket failed at about 40K miles. She was driving to a wedding in Scotland, & I was in Germany.

There is actually two types of flush.

One is using a flushing oil which is very thin and you replace all the oil with this and run the engine then empty it all. This is would not entertain with modern synthetics which suspend most particulates anyway.

The other is an additive, like a can which you pour in the existing oil again run the engine an empty it all.

I use the additive one every couple of oil changes. Liquid moly pro line, its a bit more expensive but I do believe you do get what you pay for. When my oil drains then I do all the other bits (filters, wipers, etc) and go for a cup of tea so I really like to let it all drain out as much as possible.
