I am considering buying a 320CE and converting to LPG. having read through the forums, a lot seems to depend on who fits it and the suitability of the system to the car.

Has anyone out there converted a 300 or 320 124 series and if so, what system did they use and do they recommend a particular installer. I am based in Cambridgeshire and wouldn't want to go too far afield.

What MPG should i expect?

I converted my s320 to lpg, which is probbaly the slightly newer version of the 320ce. I used a prins fully sequential multi-point system, which is the best available and it cost me £2k. It drove absolutely no different to petrol, it was fully automatic. No problems what-so-ever. If you are going to convert, use the best, it will save probs in the long term. Im very convinced that LPG is the way forward, im about to buy my 3rd LPG merc

I have a CLK 2000 230K on lpg and it was done in the North West using the E-Gas system done by Leyland LPG services.

No problems whatsover and only cost around £1450 to convert.

I know when I telephoned around the country I was getting quotes upto £2500 so you may want to consider them especially if they are offering a courtesy car.

I am also on my third lpg car - my advice is not to skimp on the kit or installation, it's worth every penny to know you have used a good reliable installer as there are PLENTY of cowboys out there just waiting to take your money and run! Provided you are looking at keeping the car long term the installation costs will be worthwhile as the savings in terms of fuel are massive! (FWIW my 300TE has a BRC kit and has given no problems to date, mpg is virtually the same as petrol but at 39.9p a litre for gas the day to day running costs are a fraction of what they were). If you know someone with an lpg car in your area ask them who they used - personal recommendation is always the best option as far as I am concerned.
