Hi everybody, this is my first post as I am due to collect my 1990 W124 230CE on Saturday. The garage that serviced it, Star in Reading, have confirmed that it had a top half engine rebuild including the head 30k ago.

What exactly does this involve and should it give me added peace of mind.

Any explanations would be appreciated. Thanks

Top alf usually means the head and its parts have been replaced or reground etc, cam chain, sprockets possibly, valve stem seals, valves reground, head skim, head crack test, head pressure test, new head gasket, lifters, inlet and exhaust gaskets, head bolts and possibly other parts I cant think of.

Top end rebuilds common practice as the bottom ends tend to go on for ever. Its the top end that does all the work.

If done proper should last a few 100,000 miles.
