Hi. I want to buy a small torque wrench (TW) for use with torx screws and bolts on my Merc E320 (W211). It will be used mostly for interior parts, trim etc. My Torx set has quarter-inch drive. Most TWs on sale go down to around 30Nm min. Is that small enough for small items on modern cars? What is the best range?
Thanks

I bought one a few years ago , Teng I think ? Goes from 5-30nm ish (1/4 “) , good for glow plugs , oil filter caps , i then have another for bigger suspension stuff, wheels, brakes etc that runs from 30-150nm ish ? (1/2”)
Neither are anything special make wise , but I’m only diy’ing my two cars

Wighty - Thanks. Amazon do a Draper 3/8" (10mm) drive with a range of 10Nm-80Nm for £30. This seems a good range - yes? Ignore that - reviews on Amazon are not good - recommend the Teng so will look again.

I still think you will need 2 in the end depending on what car jobs you do , I still think I’ve used settings as low as 5nm ? Also as high as 150nm on suspension ?

OP you should get a lower one to 5 Nm.

I have seen those attachments you stick on the end of your wrench - any one and experience

Frankly I find I don't Need tw for anything non critical based on 40 + yr experience but I have 4 for critical stuff along with adaptors, both ways 1/4,-3/4. But torx to me was snap off and others devising another way to force mechanics into more stuff and more space to store it. IMG_20201227_141652.jpg

I’ve a nice one that fits behind the passenger seat.

One thing that the OP should bear in mind is to wind the torque wrench back to ~0 once finished. They work on a spring so if left compressed they loose tension over time and therefore the setting is no longer correct.

No need for a torque wrench on wheel bolts.
Tighten it up until you fart, then give it another quarter turn. Perfect.
