hi guys, i have been told my turbo maybe on its way out because there looks like a slight oil leak coming from an intercooler pipe, question is just how hard is it to remove the turbo on a 2008 c200 cdi W204, and is a cartridge replacement a good fix .

It's the old story it depends on if it goes smoothly and for the cartridge it depends on what it's like when you get it off.

Bound to be a youtube on it somewhere around the world.

Intercooler pipes are always covered in oil on the inside and if you have a leak it suggests the hose is split loose or damaged. Intercooler pipes should because tight let alone oil tight.
The reason the oil is there is down to the breathers being ducted into the inlet tract.
Before you replace the turbo get a second opinion from a reputable independent.

Exactly as LostKiwi says.

Turbos rarely fail. When a turbo plays up its because of something that is linked to the turbo causing the turbo to play up. Turbos are rather simple in what they do.

I have never had a turbo fail and I dont change cars often.

I've had two turbos fail. One was a petrol and the smoke blanked out the rear view behind.
The other was a diesel (my only diesel car ever) and again there was smoke and a very acrid exhaust smell.
None of the other dozen turbo cars I've had have had issues and they have covered very high mileages.

I replaced my Turbo for two reasons, smoke on startup not much help there
and a smokescreen on kick down, that is better than it was.

i do get a bit of smoke on kickdown but it soon clears (some times its a bit funny when i have some one up my rear end) also there is a 1 - 2 second delay on throttle when setting off from junctions i thought that mite be the peddle its self worn,

I did have a problem with a turbo on my VW T25 camper. The air intake sucked up a huge sponge (used for sound damping) and the turbo vanes got stuck. Meant clouds of black smoke and driving very very slow.
Realised it was caused by offending sponge. removed sponge (went in the bin). freed up the vanes with my finger and all was fine.
I still have the VW and its the original turbo - 1986.

As LostKiwi says.
Sadly mine did fail and I decided eventually to change mine myself. You'll find that story on my feed. And please don't ask if it's home yet LostKiwi, the pandemic, finding cheap low loader's and money have still delayed things. Anyway sorry OP member, digressed.

Vw intercooler pipes were notorious for filling up with oil. The pd engine passat i owned would leak after 6 months of cleaning it.
