Hi,

Could someone tell me if my tyre sizes on the rear alloys for my C270 Estate should be 205/55/R16 or 225/55/R16?

There is currently 205's on there however, the previous owner may have put the existing alloys on and I find the owners' manual confusing as it refers to summer & winter profiles being different but I couldn't find a definitive answer as to whether it should be 225 or 205?

Does it matter with it being an estate?

thanks

Avantgarde (at least on the 2004 facelift onwards models) come with a "staggered" set up of 7J wheels on the front with 205/55/R16 tyres and 8J on the rear with 225/50/R16.

It can't matter - the Classic and Elegance have 7J wheels all round with 205/55/R16.

Aren't the staggered set-ups a 17" wheel? Mine certainly are.

Thanks guys, guess i do not have too much to worry about then. It's a late '02 so it's pre-face lift which means that I guess they should be 205's all round.

Thanks for your time & input...........cheers!!!

Mine are exactly the sizes I quoted (on 16" wheels). That's standard on Avantgarde, as I said, at least on the mid 2004 onwards facelift version.

I even dug out the price list to confirm Classic & Elegance where same size all round.

The Sports Package on yours included 7.5J & 8.5J wheels with 225/45 & 245/40 R17 tyres.
(The package lists at £630, but the wheels as an option on their own were £430).

Mmm, thanks chaps. Guess as long as it stays on the road I don't have too much to worry about, I think......

<('U')>

This was the first of my worries, now I need to figure how to get the locking wheel nuts off without the tool being available as I need to get new tyres and the previous owner didn't give me the key prior to escaping to Canada.

Guess I need to start searching "Flea-bay"

Try the dealer, they should be able to tell which key you need from the service book (back page should have various details and a sticker identifying the key)

MB are quite often cheaper than other sources. Always a good idea to check their prices first....

It's a great deal for all the extra stuff you get - *if* you want it.

I'd be very interested to try a car with the same spec as yours - mine runs beautifully on the M6 Toll Road but get on a normally surfaced UK road and the ride is just horrendous. In theory, with sports suspension and lower profile tyres yours should be way worse, but it can't be or it would be all but undriveable. Maybe it's like BMW's - apparently the 3 Series Sport versions ride better than the SE due to having variable rate gas dampers.

I was assuming, based on your original post, that the wheels were not MB. If they (and, more importantly) the locking bolt are, then the dealer will be able to order a replacement key. They keep a full set at each dealership for service work.

The ride gets quite "jiggly" on normal roads. Those painted speed lines on the approach to some round-abouts can really upset the car's handling under braking.

You are very welcome to ride in mine should we meet at one of the GTGs :)

Thanks sir, you are a scholar & a gent. Will try MB as they are genuine MB alloys for that model too so hopefully they should be able to help me out with the locking wheel nut tool.

Have fun test driving the chaps sporty profiles.......
