Unleaded in a Cosworth?

I have just seen that my closest LRP supplier (Sainsbury's, 20 miles away!) is to stop selling the stuff, so I've decided that it's time to try and find an alternative!

Does anybody know what options I have? Can I run my 2.3-16v on normal unleaded, or super unleaded? Will I need to add an additive to Super-Unleaded (as suggested on the notice at Sainsbury's!)??

Any help would be very much appreciated, as I am getting bored of having to plan my long journey's around the locations of LRP stations!!

Thank you!

You'll probably find it pinks with normal unleaded. Super may be OK, but you still may need the additive.

heres a list of additive providers. http://www.fbhvc.co.uk/fuel/additives.htmOne of the classic car press ran a comparision of these a few years ago - anyone remember? They all use slightly different additives - ie potassium, sodium, phosporus etc, key is to stick with one and use that _even to the point of working out how much you'll need over the next year or so and bulk buying (may get cheaper than buying the odd bottle her and there .)
I believe some may be octane boosters also which means you can use just UL

Just in case - here's a list of 4 star suppliers - in case you're near catford! http://www.fbhvc.co.uk/fuel/four-star-gges.htm

Been running mine on 95oct unleaded for years no problem, anyway Mercedes quote N as being 93 oct and S as 95 oct (this is changable on the ignition modual. You can also alter the mapping to suit different uses, this a round plug you remove and rotate, it is located next to the ECU behiind the plastic shield behind the battery. Mercedes don't even mention 98 oct in the owners manual

most cars have a lead "memory" for 10k or so. it should run fine with the ignitiontiming set correctly, but unless you want to get the cylinder head sorted with hardened valve springs, you will need some kind of additive!

It's a good job the 16v models have race tuned heads with hardend seats etc then. It's not the springs you have to worry about it's the valve seats, valves and guides as the lead only acts as a lubricant for the older set ups. Most modern cars from the humble VW beetle of 1978 onwards are good to go on unleaded. Cosworth rules OK
