Hi all
We had an S55 AMG W220 in for some work (mainly suspension and electronics related.... )
We went to bring it into the workshop and it started making a huge racket!!!!
Tested the oil pressure, 0 psi.
After consulting with the customer, we dropped the pan and found this :
We found the oil pump, completely seized. It had sized at idle, ripped itself off the bottom of the block and fallen into the sump. The oil pump chain was still quite happily whizzing around the sump, still attached to the crankshaft sprocket.
We cut open the pump, to check whether it had ingested any debris to cause it to fail. Absolutely spotless inside. Looked like the bearing had failed and welded itself to the outer housing.
Another M113 dies A replacement second hand engine will be going into this, as the engine has not been run long, but the bore damage will be unknown until we strip the engine.
