Point taken. The fact remains my car was more economical and drove far better before the Emissions update.

One more thing to add. When driving in manual mode on a light throttle the "upshift" display tells me to change to 7th gear at 55mph. If it won't do it automatically until I am doing over 70mph, why does it say it is ok in manual?

Since it was just a software change and not also a hardware / sensor change surely GAD had a copy of your original remap file to put back on ?

Sounds like they've created a new file from the inferior update version .

My 9G was like that, you could get 9th below 70 with the paddles but it would drop back to 8th quite often in Auto...
I’d notice as the revs would go from 1,250 to 1,500. Couldn’t hear or feel the change, you’d just see the Rev counter rise by 250 revs as it dropped.
Quick pull on the up shift paddle and it would go back to 9th

The 7th gear thing is well known/noted, and unfortunately the thread on here has been derailed by 'anti-diesel' posters

The only company that seems to be able to revert the software update is Big Fish Tuning near Newcastle.

A simple remap won't do it - the remap is really just changing values in the map, rather than overwriting the whole 'operating system' (like a PC).

You will get nowhere with Mercedes themselves. They make you sign for a service and you're giving your consent then - it's in the fine print (that they know you won't read)

I tend to agree. I was assured by GAD that they used the original remap file to replace the Mercedes update file.
GAD did not carry out a before and after rolling road check to see what Mercedes had done and to check the improvement after the remedial remap.
The fuel economy, nor the performance feel as good, even though I was told everything done by Mercedes had been overwritten. The problem with the auto gearbox not going into 7th feels like only half the job has been done.

That is unfortunately half of what needs to be done! You cannot roll anything back instead you have to try and move everything back over as best you can! With VAG models our tools have the ability to roll back to pre Diesel gate software versions so your not "polishing a turd" as it were but that isn't available for the Mercedes yet or possibly never :(

We would be happy to get you back in to see if there is anything further but Dyno time would be a waste of time and money buddy its more correction of calibration than anything else

Many thanks

I didn't realise this. My 2016 C207 350d was updated by Mercedes before I bought it.
I was planning to get it remapped, but this has thrown a spanner in the works.
Anyone had Big Fish revert, then remap?

I'm not sure if STAR can roll back the factory software like I mentioned in another post our tools have the ability with the VAG emissions affected vehicles but nothing for Mercedes OR BMW

No not true its nothing like over writing a PC's operating system at all.

Having spoken to GAD, they have invited me to take the car back to them for investigation. I much appreciate their gesture of goodwill and excellent customer service.
I will let you know how I get on.

I'm not sure if I'm confused over this?
Because the car has been updated by Mercedes, can I still have it remapped.
I'm based Greater Manchester.

Yes you can get it remapped still, but it will from the newer parameters rather than the old ones, so maybe not quite as good but still much better than you have now

Hi all, GAD invited me to their facility last Friday. I am amazed at their customer service. It transpires, the recall update carried out by Mercedes on my car, was slightly different to all other updates that GAD had seen before. The differences were subtle, but very damaging to the performance and economy of the car. GAD spent 2.5 hrs with my car including remapping it completely again from scratch combined with another session on the Dyno. The jury is still out on the auto upshift to 7th gear, as the gearbox is still learning my driving style, but the performance is back with a vengeance. Fabulous power from tickover to the red line. I am expecting an improvement in the economy, when I am not enjoying all that grunt.
Suffice to say, I cannot recommend GAD Tuning highly enough. Their attention to detail is exceptional.
Thanks guys.
You cannot polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter.
