Valuation Advice - 1998 C240 11,000 miles

Hi,

I would appreciate any advice to help me value my Nan's mint C240 Auto.

It is 1998 model and about 11,000 miles (I will confirm when I am next over there). It has always been garaged and never driven in the winter (she always went on 3 month cruises!)

She wants to sell it by mid-March when the tax, insurance and MOT is due - a stroke last year means she won't be driving it again.

There is a C180 on the classifieds with 21,000 miles for £4,500, but that is a dealer.

All help appreciated - I have no idea about Mercedes!

Regards,

Steve

Where is “over there” Steve?
It would help to know what model, Esprite / Elegance /Sport and if its petrol or diesel, leather or cloth interior/ colour etc.

No idea on value - but you're looking for an enthusiast. There is a 'mercedes enthusiast' magazine - thats where i'd advertise it. At a guess I'd start it at £5k and see how it goes.
That model is considered by many - me included - as the very last over engineered merc.
But as with all these things, you need to find someone who understands the value of what you're selling.

Hi Dec, thanks for the reply.

It is a C240, petrol engine, automatic.

It is the Elegance model. I've no idea about any extras - I assume pretty standard. For example it seems to be radio cassette not radio CD. It does have AC though.

Colour is dark blue, with grey leather upholstery.

The car is in Leatherhead, just south west of London.

It also has a personalised plate, FWIW.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi Jberks,

Thanks for the reply - I wasn't aware of the magazine so I'll give that a try.

Keep us informed on that with a link to any advert (plenty of pictures) you might put up. It’s not a run of the mill car and should get a good offer but not easy to value as it is only worth what someone will pay for it, however some would view it as a 1 Year old car.

There was a C180, I think about 1995, with 9,000 miles that sold for around £5,000, ebay I think.

All,

Thanks for the help. I'll post a link to any ad once Nan has decided what to do.

Might be worth giving Coach House Cars a ring in Ashtead- just up the road from you! They are a small family run business who specialise in low mileage cars and classic Mercs. I bought mine from there. Make sure you mention the silver N reg 350SL they sold me a few years back... not that i'm working on comission or anything...

"We URGENTLY require more low mileage cars for stock. If you are looking to sell your low mileage car and live reasonably local to us, please call for a quote. If you have a classic car of any make (in particular Mercedes Benz) and are considering selling, we would be interested in talking to you."

If nothing else you could get a valuation.

I see they have an almost identical R reg blue C240 Elegance with 84,000 miles at the moment for £2695.
