Hi andreas, Why do you think its the valve seals. If the valve seals are leaking then overnight oil drips off the valves and in the morning your exhaust will give off blue smoke with a definate smell of oil burning, but only for a few seconds/minutes. Is this the case? Or is it simply using a lot of oil. Does it produce blue smoke when you rev then engine under no load, ie not in drive? How difficult is to change the valve seals in a 1995 c180?
Is it time consuming and expensive?
I am asking because I have 120K Km and a noticeable oil consumption.

I have not seen blue smoke. It is simply using a lot of oil.

I would do as Malcolm says and have a compression test done first, then you can look at the cost of repair ie rings or valves.if the problem is the valve seals what is the cost of repair?
To test the engine re using oil.
If you are say at the trafic lights and you pull away, and it smokes, then its valves, or leave the engine at idle a couple of mins, then rev it up.
If it smokes when pulling then its bores.
An compression tester tells all, valves and bores.
