Mercedes Vito 109 cdi 2006
Hello. I’m new to the forum but have had a Vito 109 cdi 2006 for a few years now.
I have a problem and would love to get any input from anyone that may know.
I replaced the engine on my van recently and swapped everything from my old engine to the “new to me engine” except the fuel pump hp pump.. I stupidly I don’t have the old engine no more so I cannot see the part number off the original pump.

Question: can I just put any pump in? Why would not work?

Is there any way to find out the exact pump my old engine used to have with vin number etc?

Could it be just the case of swapping the quantity valve?

Basically I drove 2h yesterday with the cheap reader connected and every 5 to 10seconds resetting the fault if I did not do that it would just cut out!.. what a journey…

Well thanks a lot in advance for any input
Gerard

I think I have the 646 engine and the fault code I’m getting is: rail pressure monitoring volume control valve values below range

Yes it will be the 636.
Are the injectors from your original engine fitted to this one?

Thanks m80. Yes they are and we’re working fine before. I also cleaned them and reseated them with the proper tooling, new stretch bolts, clamps and washers. Aswell as I really cleaned the threats. So no leak from the injectors. I also tried swapping the rail with sensors to no avail

I purchased a quantity valve as is cheap and easier to try first so hopefully I can test it on Wednesday.

I can't think it is the cause of your issue anyway, but I expect your aware that the injectors are ECU matched to each cylinder. That is, they shouldn't be swapped around.

Are the early injectors Piezo? They shouldn't be lay flat while out.

Monitoring the rail pressure while running 'may' provide a clue.

Thanks again. Yes when I monitored last time it seem to be a beat low but can remember what pressure was around 360 I think but I will test again.
The injectors were Bosch and were the ones connected to the ecu. But a couple year ago I already replaced injectors without any coding and been working fine until now. I only replaced the engine as I could tell was starting to be tired and old.. but I’ll check and give updates.
Thanks a lot

Post the Vin and I'll check the Part# for you.
The first 6 numbers are sufficient.

Looks like there are a lot of Part numbers all of which would be suitable for your old engine.
Check part 18 in the link below, then scroll down to see the Part#'s
The one at the bottom is the latest number, all the others have been superseded by the next number down.
The link below refers to a 639601 Vin number.

Should you need to refer to the Parts catalogue for any other parts , the whole EPC is below.
