E400d All Terrain - I have posted the below query to MB via their website, but would welcome views / experience from embers here too:
My car is due for a service soon, however a few weeks ago it said on the dashboard to add 1 litre of oil. I called into the dealer who supplied the vehicle and asked for a litre of spec 229.61 oil as specified in the handbook. The parts team informed me they do not have that spec oil and instead supplied oil to spec 229.51 and informed me that is what would be put in a diesel car for a service. The handbook for my car states this spec oil should ONLY be used in exceptional cases as a one-off, and that the engine should be filled with oil to spec 229.52 or for best economy, 229.61. I am therefore concerned it will not be filled with oil to the correct spec at service and am not sure of the implications of this. Can you please provide some clarity on how to proceed?
