Hi there,

I've had my van for a bit over a year and its been great, apart from a bit of an oil cooler leak, which I'm working towards fixing, at some point, in the future, maybe (I really don't want to!)

Anyway, Thursday on the way to work I was driving about 60mph and noticed the rpm was way high. The box wasn't shifting so pulled over, put it in park and tried to restart. It wouldn't. I found the little button to get it out of park but the dash would only display R wherever the shifter was. Luckily I found that if I held the key for starting and moved the stick back and forth in the no mans land between drive and neutral it would fire up. I drove it home in what I assume was first gear, 20mph, for 5 miles all the while the dash displayed R.

I've done some google-fu on it, and not managed to find an exact description match for whats happened. I did find on this here good site to check the transmission ecu for oil ingress, the big plug on the box for ingress and if the box itself actually had any oil in it. The ecu and big plug where bone dry, and the box level is where it was meant to be when warm and running (got it going with the above wobbling of the stick). I checked for any codes with a reader, and got the below:

So I also had a look at the shift position sensor, gave it a clean with contact cleaner and put it back as there was nothing obviously wrong with it. Amazingly enough, the ****** thing started working, showed all gear positions inc 1-4 with the manual select and I went for a drive for a bit. Went out for a few beers after with a smug glow.

This morning though, exactly the same thing again. Bugger. So thought I'd do a bit of a video so you can see whats going on:

If anyones got any pointers or can recommend any pro's in the east midlands area (I'm near Derby) it'd be much appreciated.

Thanks, Alex

Think brain don't see in park, neutral info so no start. So shift position switch playing up.
I don't know myself but have also heard brake switch on pedal cluster can do this. Wait someone else to confirm. Maybe during all Yr fiddlin u were also on brake pedal?
