Hello,

Can anyone please help, i tried fitting some new lights in the back of my Vito van , and have tripped/shorted/blown something or other as now neither my front cab or rear compartment interior lights work, i didnt even fit the new lights just touched the connection in the rear interior light with the new ones to see if it would work, it initially made the new lights light up, but then nothing, and nothing in front either. ive had 2 people look at it and there is no fuse allocated to interior lights and they coulnt find how to solve the issue. Can anyone shed any light (excuse the pun) on this , as now winter here im in darkness!
Thankyou.

Kev on the 639 it's actually 23 on the F35 bank of fuses, the bank toward the o/s.
The op has the 447 so don't know if that's different.
If the op's fuse board is still the A639 545 0401 then maybe, but the 639 bit suggests otherwise.

I've found recently that MB are switching the negative on interior lights, pretty sure it was switched positive on earlier Vi's, just in case it makes any difference.
1st to check really is for 12 volts at the front light, but it's often less simple as the lights can have more than 1 feed (main light, map lights, and even ambient lights nowadays), sorry I've no familiarity with the 447.

For info I'm mounting these as my standard now.

2 into the back of the tailgate for loading and 1 over each sliding door as an exit light.

Hello again , can you please help identify where fuse block F35 is???
the link is for vitos upto 2010, mine is a 2016.
The F numbers dont match up with anything in my fuse allocation book. The fuse holders begin with an S.
thanks if anyone can help.

Thanks Kev, and M80.
regards last message, there is no fuse board by drivers knee, only passenger footwell and under bonnet.
seems crazy how hard it seems to be fix this issue.
nothing online about 2016 model fuses, and nothing in fuse book regards interior lighting.
think gonna have to try and book into another auto electrician to try sort?..

This info is likely of little relevance, but in case.
My manual has next to nowt regarding fuses.
There is a 'Fuse Allocation Supplement'.

I've always found Mercs fuse description to be more confusing than useful, so created my own spreadsheet to carry in case I'm on a dark road, in the snow, trying to diagnose an issue. Attached is the under bonnet fuse (and relay) layout.

The 639 has an additional fuse bank below the passenger seat in front of the battery.
It is for door control units, camper units and sound system. Mine has a fuse that supplies the head unit. More often there is little used in there.

While the 447 is going to be different, there may be similarities.
For me I would be looking to se if you have 12 volts (to chassis rather than to other wires) at the light unit/s.
No 12 volt and more likely, and hopefully, a fuse has popped.
This is difficult to advise on as I don't know if the 447 Vito has the simple type wiring earlier Vito's had, or if it more complicated as in my Viano.
Even the better equipped Vito's did come with the more complex front o/h light unit.
The complex front o/h light unit has much more wiring for a variety of purposes that I wouldn't want to try and advise on.
The rear lights have 4 wire plugs. The negative/s are switched and there is a constant 12 volts available. These now have additional map lights and ambient LED's.

The hope here is that you haven't popped something in your SAM. But as the SAM will isolate and protect due to a circuit fault there is vague possibility that if you disconnect the battery you could cause a reset, assuming all faults are now taken care of.

Thank you very much for your info , much appreciated.

Testing car electrics etc is all a bit out my levels of fixing car bits, i dont want risk doing any further damage to any other fuses/circuits etc.

Im going to get an auto electrician to take a look and will pass on these messages if he gets stuck like the other 2 have.

will repost soon , so as to pass on any helpful knowledge if i get issue resolved, so may help someone else one day!

cheers
