Hi

I have recently brought a vito van (1998, R reg) with an 'up and over' rear boot door. It has a glass window and wiper/washer.......

.......however I can not find a switch/ stalk for this!

- I'm pretty sure I'm not being stupid and think the van is missing the correct button/stalk. I was wondering if it would be possible to some how wire up the motor (which I have checked is present) to another switch?

- I'm also having a couple of other problems electrically (I'm trying to wire in some extras, like a new stereo, parking sensors an extra 12v socket) and a wiring diagram would be really handy!

Am I right in thinking there is no haynes manual? can anyone suggest an alternative.

Thanks

The rear wiper switch is incorporated in the normal front wiper switch , just pull back the switch towards you and it should work ,ALTERNATIVELY IT SHOULD WORK IF YOU SELECT REVERSE WHEN THE FRONT WIPERS ARE WORKING. If you hold the switch towards you the rear screenwash should also work .
If it doesn't work as above it may have the wrong wiper combi switch fitted or it even may have had a transplant tailgate from another vehicle as your vehicle is a van it may originally have had an all metal tailgate with no window therefore no wiper and its associated wiring and relays .

Thanks

It is likely that everything is there and the switch to operate the motor is present as described by Quick Silver, there is probably a fault somewhere preventing the motor running, a fuse or a poor connection, a broken wire where it goes into the door or perhaps the van thinks the rear door is open (faulty light pin) and so prevents the wiper from running for safety reasons.

If you fail to find a fault, it is possible to wire the wiper motor independently of the wiper circuit, it would involve 1 live wire with an inline fuse and 2 earth wires, one of the earth would go through a switch on the dash to operate the wiper.
If you could put up a picture simelar to the one below which is of a front wiper motor it might be possible to work out which wires to connect up.
