W114 1973 280CE Coupe problem, fuel?

Hello,
My W114 has been garaged for a year now and over the weekend I had to move it. Connected up a brand new battery and turned the key. The car turns over well enough but just won't spark. I pumped the accelerator a fair bit and couldn't detect a single hint of a petrol smell. The car has a third of a tank of fuel, so would you say the fuel pump has packed up? If so where is it and where can I get a new one?

Oh my other question is this: the car is perfect in virtually every way aside from needing a respray as the Merc red has simply turned to a light pinky grey. The car has done 50,000 miles and has only had one owner (my wifes great granny). Once its back up and running how much is a car like this worth - would it pay for us to have it resprayed and then sell it or are they worth so little it wouldn't make any financial sense to paint it?

Many thanks

Ben

This is a trick for a w123, but I bet it would work...

Put your autobox into "D" and then try to start the car. It won't due to the safety inhibitor, but the fuel pump should run when you have the key turned to position three. If you can't hear a faint whirring noise from near the back of the car, your problem is the fuel pump. Try checking for power supply with a multimeter, and check the fuel pump relay - this can be by-passed by bridging the connectors.

As for the car colour - have you tried paint renovator?

As Stever could be the fuel pump stuck, itds under the off rear, just behind the wheel, Have a listen when someone turns the key.

Red Paint oxidises and the chances are with T cut it will come up perfectly

If you do a find on 'D-jet' on the internet you will find some good trouble-shooting guides on the fuel injection. I had a similiar problem with my 250CE, the engine turned ok but it didn't start. Plenty of spark but no power to the injectors - it seemed like it was a problem with the injectors but it was due to the fact that it had run out of petrol!

good morning
the fuel pump is at the back, under the car, jst behind the back axel, the fuel filter is also there, i would change the filter 1st then change the pump. to check if it is working, jst check when u turn the contact on the fuel pump should make a noise. if it does then its not the pump.

not starting w114,w124, any J tronic or D

When you are about to start the car and turn the key if you listen carefully , you can hear a hiss, if no hiss then fuel pump being the problem , check relay , fuse first and a multimeter for juce at the pump would be a good idea, if every thing fails then its the fuel pump
