Hi

is it possible to replace the engine of either my W123 280TE or my W123 230TE with a five cylinder 300D? Or is it too much trouble?

If it isn't a serious headache, any pointers on where to look for a decent diesel engine?

I've been searching for a good diesel estate for ages with no success.

If you find a good diesel estate then swap whatever you want from your petrols into it. Purists will tell you that the petrols and diesels were made at two different factories and are complex to swap engines. You will need to change as a minimum;

Fuel tank
Fuel flow and return
Wiring loom
Instrument panel
Vacuum braking components
Battery and terminals
Vacuum fuel shut of arrangements
Exhaust downpipe

I suspect that you will have to consider the gear box, and radiator. Hopefully the drive chain should remain the same.

I did consider doing this myself but you need an immacculate car and a cheap donor to make it worth while. Why not consider converting to gas. Continue to enjoy the benefits of the car moving when the accelerator is depressed.
