Hi Guys i have an old w124 Mecedes Benz Saloon. It came out from factory with a petrol engine and Auto gearbox and the previous owner has change the engine with a 250TD and kept the original petrol Gearbox.i would like to boost a bit this engine altough the car is already fast enough.i just fitted a boost guage and bleed value and boost is set to a maximum of 8psi when on load.it cannot boost more since there is not enough diesel comming in.can i adjust the diesel pump to put more diesel in?is it adjustable?it should have no ecu correct?

What engine has been fitted? UK 250TDs had no turbo

If it's a complete turbo engine with the appropriate injection pump then the fuelling should be dealt with by a revised (ie turbo) fuel "map" in the pump. If it's a standard (ie non-turbo) pump then I suspect it won't deliver enough fuel and you won't get the results you're after

There is no ecu on a standard W124 250TD engine, turbo or non-turbo. But you don't say what the engine is so it's hard to state definitively

You should find plenty of info on the US forums if it's a US or European engine

Am I correct in assuming that the engine is a 2.5 turbodiesel from a late 90s c-class? (Not 250TD as in a w124 Touring diesel = estate)

I am looking to fit a turbodiesel to a w124, does the engine fit on the original mounts?

No i dont think its from a late 90 c class. i think its from a w124 estate since top cover is in metal and it seems to have no ecu.does anyone know if the diesel pump can be manually tuned please? to give more diesel

Is it left-hand drive?

A om60x turbodiesel engine will not fit into a RHD w124 as the steering box is in the way of the turbo.

As Bolide has said, the TD in 250TD or 300TD does not mean TurboDiesel (a common misconception!) it means Touring diesel. (A petrol estate is a TE.)

2.5litre turbodiesels were not available in w124s (as far as I ken) but were available in LHD w201s (190s), so your engine could be from one of them - assuming your car is LHD.

If you do have a turbocharged om60x engine fitted to your LHD w124, there is lots of info on American forums on tuning these engines.

If your w124 is RHD, I would be very interested to hear what engine is fitted and if any modifications have had to be made.

Ssangyong passed the car to Daewoo but it's now back as as Ssangyong again...

They used a Mercedes diesel engine. If you want info on it I'd contact Ssangyong with the engine number. I believe it's a 2.9-litre turbodiesel so is probably the European-market 2.9 engine

If the Musso postdates the W124 then the answer is no. If it doesn't then it probably is

If we had a bit more info from the OP then we'd know

As far as I know, Ssangyong used the om617 5-cylinder 3 litre diesel engine as used in w123 Mercs. I am not sure if they used turbocharged versions of it or not.

I am not sure if an om617 would fit into a w124, for starters the mounts are different, although they may be in the same place. Again I'm not sure if it would mate with the original gearbox.

If it is definately a 2.5litre 5-cylinder, it must be an om602 as used in w124s and w201s, however this then runs into the problem of the steering box being in the way of the turbo.

Alternatively, it may be Ssangyong designed and built derivative of a merc engine, my guessing would be that it is built on a om602 bottom end (thus it fits into a w124 no problem) but uses Ssangyong turbo hardware.

Could you possibly put some pictures up, especially of the mounts and manifolds. I am really keen to learn more about this conversion!

i was told the engine in the ssangyong musso was lifted pretty much straight from the w210 e290 turbodiesel as sold abroad. not sure how accurate this info is though

Yes its correct mercedes did not put a turbo on the 124deisel 250d or300 1985/1993 only on LHD because of the steering box, but there were two companies up north who fitted a turbo to the exaust manifold on the 250d two off which have been on EBay recently I meant to put it on the forum but did not think any body would be interested, it surprised me, next time I see one I'll take the item No.down and ask what company did the conversion. Hope this helps
