Hi folks

Just wondering if anyone could offer some advice.

I'm looking for a diesel for a veggie oil project car and have my eye on a W124 300d for the 6 cylinder 3 litre just wondering what people reckon as I already have a 190e and do most work myself so am no stranger to mercs, I just don't know much about the 124's or what to look for.

My plan is a full twin tank conversion and if it goes well it'll be a keeper/daily driver so will sell the 190 to fund it.

Any thoughts on the choice, opinions on price/age/mileage and what to look for would be greatly received!

Thanks

Cheers Ade! Have already found w124.co.uk and hear Nick is a man worth knowing! ;) Will have a hunt round the forum too.

Really looking for a basic buying guide and what sort of thing to expect for my money. I'm not looking at anything too luxy (my 190 has full leather, aircon, cruise control, etc etc ;) ) and have about 1-1.5k to spend.

Hi

I personally wouldnt bother with the twin tank. Just plug and play as far as the veg is concerned.

Thought about that route and it's be fine for supermarket purchased oil but I'm looking at waste vegetable oil, filtering it and cleaning it and using it. Can get it for free of local restaurants or even charge a small fee to cover my own refining costs.

Veggie fuel aside, is there anyhting major to look for or be concerned about when looking for a w124, I've got 1 to 1.5k to spend on a probably a 300d.

Any input would be greatly received, cheers

I run my 300d on veg oil. Currently just under 400k and going strong. No mods required for mine, I tend to keep 10% diesel all round the year and do 3500 miles a month.

Lovely old bus.

Save yourself the money from the twin tank conversion, it really doesn't need it. Not even for WVO!
Add it to your £1k-1.5k and buy the best example you can find.

You can't really go wrong with a W124 as long as it's been well maintained.
