W124 E class Cabriolet

Hello again all,

I would be grateful for some advice concerning the above mentioned car.

I was wondering, apart from the problems that Nick has highlighted for the W124 series, is there any specific areas that I should be be paying close attention to?

Also, to chop the roof the car has been strenghtened and hence would have gained some weight over the saloon. Is the E220 version going to be under powered?

220 is nippy but not fast, 150bhp or there abouts but assume the roofless 124 is heavier, also make sure it has the 5 speed auto as the 4 speed are rather thirsty, my 220 estate does 50 miles for every £10

5-speed auto not available with the 4-cylinder engine, unfortunately

The Cab is 100 Kilos or so heavier. The 220 is not really underpowered - it revs well and can be persuaded to move along quite nicely

But the 6-cylinder engines are much, much smoother and they have a lot more torque. It's the torque that makes the 320 so good to drive

There is a bit price, and image, gap between a 220 Cab without a/c and a 320 with leather, a/c and a few toys. Which you choose should depend on your priorities

Other than what has been said above, the cabriolet has all the rust problems of the saloon and coupe.
