    At 3000 rpm should my 1994 diesel auto estate only be doing 70mph?

    Sounds a bit low. My old S203 would be doing 70mph at 2000rpm.

    But it's difficult to be certain as models/engine combos change.

    See if another S124 owner replies..

    Sounds about right, its only a 4-speed box

    Do you have a handbook for the car?
    MB usually list the maximum speeds for each gear in the back.

    MB didn't sell the W124 with a diesel turbo in the UK.

    2002 SL500, 216 CL500, all fully loaded
    Yes most 124's had gearing of 1000rpm to 20 mph one estate was called the TD this was for "Estate" and "diesel"

    that should be 70/75 mph ---check the speed with a plug in sat nav ?
