wish I could answer this one, because my 260e is doing very similar things, lumpy idle sometimes, no tickover at all sometimes, and stalled on me 3 times today at traffic lights. The only thing I havnt done yet is change the fuel filter, which may well be our answer !!!

The first thing is to eliminate ALL inlet vacuum leaks.

After that, make sure that plugs, cap, rotor and leads are in fine condition.

Make sure air and fuel filters are good.

Then check injection duty cycle.

Don't assume that anything expensive is broken until proven otherwise. 90% of the time it's neglect rather than failure.

If it’s high mileage, try disconnecting the engine breather pipe to the air filter. Bad or oily air really messes with the fuel injection system. It’s the simplest thing at cures most running issues. I found this out after two completely new dizzies and HT leads making no difference.

The oily air will pass thru the air filter which will trap the oil. ????

Best to use an oil catch tank for the breather ?
