They were a cost option on pretty much all 124's at the time of ordering.
Should be pretty much a straight swap,although I think that the d/shafts were different.
I don't really do electrics (witchcraft) but presumably the LSD itself is just a plate or torque biasing type (entirely mechanical) and could be used without the traction control system simply to redirect torque when one wheel loses traction?

Alas, no.
ASD is a hydraulic locking diff - if you go up a level or two on the Russian site, and look under hydraulics, you'll find the piping run and the extra accumulator which is fitted to the underbody.
The system takes input from the ABS sensors, and when slip is detected applies hydraulic pressure to the diff, locking the output shafts together. It's a complex system, and it's very much designed for allowing you to set off and drive slowly on slippery surfaces rather than a high performance, high speed device.
