Hi all,

I have recently purchased another TE, this time a 1991 300 24v.

Yesterday when suck in heavy traffic on the m11 I went to pull out and head up to the next junction when I didnt have any power to speak of!
Eventually the car got rolling and it started to pull but initially there was nothing, it was hot, looking at the water temperature sitting somewhere between 80 and 120 (100 ish?).

I was wandering if this is anything to do with the gearbox oil as the car is pretty hesitant to change up when cold, but after a couple of minutes is normally fine.

My dad had a look and thought the auto transmission fluid was a little low (sitting under the min line) so added some.

I havent been stuck in any traffic today so cant tell if its made a difference yet.

Any ideas what may have caused this?

Cheers

Paul

I had something similar happen to me. A general lack of power when accelerating away from roundabouts etc, the gearbox felt really hot and you could feel it through the transmission tunnell wall. I got the fluid changed, so far it seems to have cured it, there was a fair amount of sludge in the torque convertor. Incidentally shortly afterwards the Head Gasket blew ! Not sure if the two are related ?

Badshot,

My not be a gearbox problem at all. Could easily be a fuel evaporation problem. If it "fixed" itself after the engine temperature came down, a fuel problem is much more likely. If the engine is getting too hot on traffic, serious expence isn't far away if you ignore it. Check the operation of the viscous fan (the famous carrot test) if you have one, or the electric fan if you don't.

Don't worry about the gearbox delaying change up when cold. This is part of the emissions program to get the engine up to operating temp asap. Mine revs to nearly 4000 sometimes. I sound like a right boy-racer:D
